Patient presents 2 weeks following cataract surgery with retained lens fragments, iris chafing from subluxed IOL, broken bag, IOP of 51 and has had lens fragments supposedly removed already along with multiple paracenteses to attempt to bring the IOP down (along with being placed on multiple glaucoma meds.) Case is discussed and the surgery I performed is presented.

I use this device when traditional glaucoma surgery such as a trabeculectomy or Optonol ExPress mini-shunt has already failed or is likely to fail to achieve adequate pressure reduction. I am a glaucoma sub-specialized Ophthalmologist and have a full time clinical practice at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic of the Geisel School of Medicine in Hanover, NH. I have a longtime interest in the use of technology to help in medical care as well as in Education. In addition, I was a very early adopter and developer of Electronic Medical Record systems who has lectured internationally on the topic of making the transition to EMRs in daily practice.
